GAS AND GAS PAINS

Gas and Gas Pains
Belching
Belching (burping) are normal ways to get rid of the air you
swallow every time you eat or drink.
Belching removes gas from your stomach by forcing it into your esophagus and then out of your mouth.
Swallowing too much air can cause bloating or frequent belching.
If you belch repeatedly when not eating, you may be swallowing air as a nervous habit.
You also tend to swallow air with over hot(spicy) food.
Self-care
To reduce belching and bloating well chewed food has less air
trapped, try the following tips:
* Eat slowly and avoid gulping.
* Eat fewer rich, fatty foods.
Passing gas
Most intestinal gas (flatus) is produced in the colon.
Usually the gas is expelled during a bowel movement.
All people pass gas (called flatulence), but some people produce an excessive amount of gas that bothers them throughout the day.
Swallowed air makes up a small fraction of intestinal gas.
Carbonated drinks may release carbon dioxide in the stomach and
may be a source of gas.
Gas pains
Sharp, jabbing or cramp pains in your abdomen may be caused by
the buildup of gas. Gas may be trapped behind solid intestinal content.
They pain is often intense, but brief (less than 1 minute).
Pain often occur in the right lower and left upper abdomen and change locations quickly.
You may notice a "cramping" feeling in your abdomen.
Passing gas sometimes relieves these pains.
Any of the sources of intestinal gas or diarrhea can lead to gas
pains.
Gas pains can occur when your intestines have difficulty breaking down certain foods or when you have a gastrointestinal infection or diarrhea.
Self-care
To reduce flatulence, try the following tips:
· Identify the foods that affect you the most.
· Try eliminate one of these foods at a time for a few weeks to see if your flatulence subsides: beans, peas, lentils, milk, cream, ice cream and iced milk.
* Temporarily cut back on high-fiber foods. Add them back
gradually over weeks.
* Reduce dairy products.
Occasional, use of over-the-counter anti-gas products like
Activated charcoal pills may help
