Acupuncture
An ancient Chinese method of treatment. Fine needles are inserted into various parts of the body to relieve pain or to cure a condition. It is possible that suggestion, production of pain killing ‘endorphins’ and the ‘gate theory’ of pain may have a part to play.
Against medical advice
(AMA) The patient while admitted to hospital is in the charge of his treating physician. On completion of treatment or when the physician reassures himself that the patient can look after himself, he may be discharged.
However, on being informed of the risks of early discharge, the patient can leave against medical advice at any after admission at his own risk.
Agranulocytosis
This means an absence of white blood cells in the blood. It can be the result of disease (leukemia) or use of drugs (anti-cancer drugs). It signifies reduced ability of the body to fight infection
