HOOKWORM
The worm gains entry into the human body through the skin.
The larvae(in the soil) pierce the skin and enter the bloodstream, and pass on into the intestines here suck blood and cause anaemina.
They lay eggs which are passed out through the feces, contaminating the soil.
People who walk barefoot in fields run the risk of infection.
Symptoms
* Intense itching at the site of entry
* Anemia due to blood loss
* Cough and wheezing, in case of a heavy infection
* Many may have vague abdominal discomfort
Some people are asymptomatic.
Self Care
Not to walk bare foot on contaminated soil.
Zental is used for treatment.
