GLOSSARY 23 medical terms



Technical terms come up in discussion with your physician at various stages of your meeting/ encounters with him.
 If the meaning of these terms is lost on you, you do not benefit from the discussion.
 It is therefore important that you understand the meaning and content of these terms.
This not only helps you to understand fully what is said but also helps you to ask question to clarify issues raised by your understanding.
 
Given below are the terms which you would come across in the discussion.
They are in alphabetic order to provide ease of access.
Illustrations are also provided to assist undertanding.
Capillary        Arteries divide into smaller and smaller branches.                 
Smallest of these are capillaries.
Carbohydate       The commonest component of foods. It gives energy eg rice bread.
Carbon dioxide       This is the waste product of use of oxygen and energy.


Carcinogen         Any agent chemical or radiation that can lead to a cancer is a carcinogen
                   eg asbestos xrays tobacco
