Glossary 28 Cerebral palsy

Technical terms come up in discussion with your physician at various stages of your meeting/ encounters with him.
 If the meaning of these terms is lost on you, you do not benefit from the discussion.
 It is therefore important that you understand the meaning and content of these terms.
This not only helps you to understand fully what is said but also helps you to ask question to clarify issues raised by your understanding.
 
Given below are the terms which you would come across in the discussion.
They are in alphabetic order to provide ease of access.

Cerebral palsy (polze) Lack of balance,muscle coordination, clumsy walk in a child after birth
                                     due to brain injury during birth.
                                     It can also occur due to faulty  development, or infection in childhood.

Cerebrospinal fluid      Clear fluid that surrounds brain and spinal        cord.In infection or injury
                                     this fluid needs to be examined.

Cervical erosion          Change in color and texture of covering layer of cervix,often due to
                                     infection.It leads to discharge and bleeding after intercourse.

Cervical rib                  A small rib(abnormal) attached to seventh cervical vertebra It can press
                                     nerves and vessels in the region causing pain in the hand.
