GLOSSARY A-Z 82 Hemplegia - Hemodyalasis-hemoglobin-hemoglobinuria


Technical terms come up in discussion with your physician at various stages of your meeting/ encounters with him.
 If the meaning of these terms is lost on you, you do not benefit from the discussion.
 It is therefore important that you understand the meaning and content of these terms.
This not only helps you to understand fully what is said but also helps you to ask question to clarify issues raised by your understanding.

Hemiplegia  (hemi play jia) A paralysis of all muscles of one half of the body , uaually due to a stroke.
Hemodialysis  ( heemo dy al I sis )  Cleaning the blood of a patients to remove waste products. This blood is passed through an artificial  kidney machine out side patient’s body.
Hemoglobin  An iron-containing protein in the red blood cells. It has the ability to combine with oxygen and carry it to the body tissue where the oxygen is released.
Hemoglobinuria The presence of hemoglobin in the urine. It occurs when large numbers of red cells are destroyed in the body.
