GLOSSARY A-Z 117



Technical terms come up in discussion with your physician at various stages of your meeting/ encounters with him.
 If the meaning of these terms is lost on you, you do not benefit from the discussion.
 It is therefore important that you understand the meaning and content of these terms.
This not only helps you to understand fully what is said but also helps you to ask question to clarify issues raised by your understanding. 
 
Given below are the terms which you would come across in the discussion.
They are in alphabetic order to provide ease of access.
Illustrations are also provided to assist understanding.
Nipple discharge  This occurs in pregnant woman. It can also occur with cysts in the breast. A surgeon should be consulted.
Nocturia   (nokt yu ria)  Need to get up at night to pass urine . It occurs in those above 60 years. The enlargement of the prostate  cases obstruction.
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs   (NSAID) These are drugs that relieve pain by controlling the inflammatory response. Steroids also produce this anti- in flammatory  effect but have other side effects. Thus NSAIDs are preferred as painkillers.
Nose  bleeding  Bleeding from the lining mucosa of the side nasal cavity.
