ENABLING SELF CARE

SELF CARE 4

To sustain health-prevent disease-read symptoms-return to health

Self Care Agenda

The thrust of the “Self Care” agenda is to respond to the urgent needs of the under resourced health care systems.
To use, the resource, of the literate and semiliterate men, and women of this regions, in the interest of their own health.
To persuade them, that they can be the best guardians of their own health, through prevention of disease and promotion of health.
They can indeed take on curative tasks with appropriate information inputs.
There is a need for a health literacy mission targeting the provider (health professionals) to identify the areas for task sharing and assign it to the consumer (the citizens)
Self-Care literature has been given an identity in a small way and has been published to upgrade Self-Care practices already in use by the lay public. @
The health care providers (service and trainers) need to enlarge the outreach of primary and secondary health care by utilizing the unlimited human resource of the consumer as an interested partner in this endeavor.
This could result in a seamless health care continuum, with a blurring of identities of them and us.
This approach will enhance acceptance, compliance and health outcomes in an acceptable timeframe.
It is believed that with the “buy in” of self care practices by the provider / consumer communities the burden on the health care system will be better addressed and managed
This self care movement will introduce citizen centered health care system. There will emerge a larger pool for think tanks of the future.
This agenda can be undertaken in three phases, and achieved in a3-5 year timeframe.
