PAIN AND PRESSURE
YOU’RE BODY NEEDS YOU’RE CARE
SYSTEM AND SELF CARE
Cardiovascular System
DISORDER
ANGINA
Decreased blood reaching the heart muscle, due to narrowed arteries is called coronary artery disease.(CAD)
Angina is a chest pain due to decreased blood and oxygen supply to the heart muscles.
The pain can be in the form of a feeling of tightness or pressure.
Angina can also appear when oxygen demand is more as on walking, exercise, or emotional
stress.
In all coronary artery disease the inner lining wall of arteries supplying blood to the heart muscle are
clogged by cholesterol containing plug.
If the plug splits or blood clots around the plug, heart attack (known as myocardial infarction) can occur.
Self care
In case of coronary artery disease, the main element of self care lies in preventing progress of the desease.
This would involve changes in lifestyle.
Stop smoking, smoking doubles your chances of having a heart attack.
Reduce cholesterol intake
Control over your blood pressure (BP). Blood pressure can be lowered by reducing the
amount of salt and calories in the diet, and alcohol intake.
Exercise regularly. Any exercise which you undertake with pleasure, (even walking), reduces
risk of heart disease, if done regularly.
Exercise improves heart and lung function, reducesblood pressure, cholesterol level and blood clotting.
It also helps in controlling stress and body weight.
Control your weight and blood sugar (especially if you have diabetes) -both these will help in
controlling the risk of heart disease.
The care of heart - related disease should be entirely under the guidance of a good cardiologist
.
