AILMENTS A-Z BOILS



BOILS
Infection of the hair follicles by the organism staphylococcus is the cause of boils.
The skin site of infection is red, and painful to touch or pressure
(area is tender).

A deep lesion may cause pus formation resulting in a boil.
The common sites of infection are neck, thighs buttocks and armpits.

Self care
Good personal hygiene should be a habit, with regular bathing,

Washing of hands, and

Use of clean towel, and

Underwear.

Antibiotic (tetracycline) are required if there is fever.

Pus formation requires surgery to drain the pus.
