EPILEPSY(mirgi)
Seen in children and adults, a disorder of the brain cells.
Focus of cells in the brain sets off a burst of electric activity.
Changes the patient’s level of awareness.
Sets of fits of muscle contractions.
Patient has no control over these actions.
May injure himself during these fits.
Some have a warning awareness that a fit is about to come(aura).
The patient has fixed stare prior to the fit.
Home selfcare
If you see a patient lay him on his side so there is no obstruction to the airway
Loosen his collar
Loosen any other constricting clothing
Do not restrain him
Remove all objects that can injure him
Observe him so you as witness can provide information on nature of fit,and duration.
The patient will require long term drug therapy under the care of a physician.
