GIARDIA INFECTION
Symptoms of Giardia are caused by infection by the parasite Giardia
lamblia.
A common source of infection is contaminated drinking
water and uncooked food.
Cysts are passed on by the infected person if she/he handles food or utensils.
Ciardiasis can be asymptomatic.
Some persons may have;
Diarrhea,
Cramping abdominal pain,
Nausea,
Vomiting,
Feeling of fullness after meals.
Malabsorption and weight loss can also occur.
The incubation period lasts 1-2 weeks.
Diagnosis is through stool examination.
Self Care
Here again, self care involves the practice of personal hygiene.
The drugs atabrine and flagyl are used in the treatment after stool test.
Tinadezole can be prescribed
