HEPATITIS
Inflammation of the liver is known as hepatitis.
It most commonly caused by virus or through exposure to toxic chemicals.
Drugs can also cause hepatitis.
Viral hepatitis is a disorder prevalent in most parts of the
world, including Southeast Asia . It is caused by virus and
prominent ones are
* Hepatitis A (HAV)
* Hepatitis B (HBV)
* Hepatitis C (HCV)
HEPATITIS A
Hepatitis is a virus transmitted through the oral route, that is
through food and water contaminated with virus in human waste. Hepatitis A is caused by virus (HAV) may be asymptomatic.
The symptoms if present are fever, jaundice, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting.
You may get infected when traveling in any developing country.
Infection in children is usually mild.
The incubation period from the time of infection to presentation of symptoms, ranges from 15 to 60 days.
Antibodies to hepatitis A virus appear early.
There is no carrier state.
The infection is not transmitted from the infected person after one week of appearance of symptoms.
Cirrhosis of the liver does not take place in the case of
hepatitis A.
Most case the liver heals without any complications.
SELF CARE
* Be careful in consumption of food and drink when outside
home.
* While traveling, immunise against hepatitis A.
* Washing hands thoroughly with soap after going to the toilet
and before handling food is an effective way of preventing
