GLOSSARY A-Z 33 cleft palate,club foot,cold abcess,colic.

Technical terms come up in discussion with your physician at various stages of your meeting/ encounters with him.
 If the meaning of these terms is lost on you, you do not benefit from the discussion.
 It is therefore important that you understand the meaning and content of these terms.
This not only helps you to understand fully what is said but also helps you to ask question to clarify issues raised by your understanding.

Cleft palate
A birth defect due to non-development of tissues of the palate. There is a gap, thus there is a passage of food from mouth to nasal cavity. Speech is also affected. Surgical correction is required.
Club foot 
 Also called talipes. A birth defect due to non-development of bones and muscles of the foot. Treatment (splints) or surgery is required 

Cold abscess  Abscess seen in TB

Colic (kol ik) Pain originating in any hollow tube in the body (intestine, ureter, bile ducts) that increases and decreases in intensity, described as gripping or twisting, usually due to an obstruction in the tube
