GLOSSARY A-Z 68 foreskin fracture frostbite frozen section



Technical terms come up in discussion with your physician at various stages of your meeting/ encounters with him.
 If the meaning of these terms is lost on you, you do not benefit from the discussion.
 It is therefore important that you understand the meaning and content of these terms.
This not only helps you to understand fully what is said but also helps you to ask question to clarify issues raised by your understanding.

Foreskin   Also called prepuce. The skin covering the penis and the  glans. It can be retracted to expose the glans.
Fracture  A break  in a bone
Frostbite  A from of cold injury . It  usually affects the  tips of  the  fingers , toes and nose . Damage  is usually superficial ,  to the  skin , but  severe  frostbite can damage deep tissues causing gangrene
Frozen section  Precise diagnosis can be obtained through biopsy and section of disease tissue. To hasten this process tissue can be frozen and sectioned. Thus diagnosis is available while the patient is still on the operation table
