GLOSSARY A-Z 149 STD-Skin grafting





Technical terms come up in discussion with your physician at various stages of your meeting/ encounters with him.
 If the meaning of these terms is lost on you, you do not benefit from the discussion.
 It is therefore important that you understand the meaning and content of these terms.
This not only helps you to understand fully what is said but also helps you to ask question to clarify issues raised by your understanding.

Sexually transmitted ( STD ) Earlier called VD. Some of the common disease are gonorrhea , AIDS , herpes genitalis , syphilis , venereal warts and chancroid.
Shock Collapse of circulation due to inadequate   oxygen to tissues. It occurs in conditions of heart attack , allergic reaction , sepsis and loss of blood.
Sigmoidoscopy   Examination of the rectum and lower colon with a lit telescope.
Skin graft In cases of skin loss ( as in burns ) , superficial layers of the skin can be removed from healthy areas  and transferred to the burns area. This grafted skin takes blood and nourishment from the deeper tissues of recipient area
& survives giving cover to burnt or skin area.
