THE GET ABOUT TRANSPORT SYSTEM
Skeletal System II
Connected to the chest are the bones of shoulders, arms and hands (64 bones). These bones with their muscles are important since it is through function of our upper limb muscle we can use our hands to perform the tasks to earn our living.
The skull sits on the top of the erect spine.
It consists of 29 bones including the bones of the face and 3 small bones in each ear that aid our hearing.
The skull houses and protects the brain from injury, the most important part of the information processing center.
The area of fitting of two bones in the limbs forms a joint, with a connective tissue capsule all round the two ends of the bones, lined on the inside of the capsule, is the smooth shining membrane, called the synovial membrane, that provides a synovial fluid to make joint movement smooth.
Controlled muscle contraction on one side, and relaxation of muscles on the other side, causes the movements of these joints.
The joints are hinge like the elbow and knee, or ball and socket joints, like hip joint and shoulder.
