Immune System 2
IMMUNITY products and actions
ANTIGENS AND ANTIBODIES The body is used to invasion In your life you have received some antibodies through your mother at birth. Later in breast milk Some antibodies have been produced by you, due to previous infections.
Antigens are substances usually proteins or carbohydrate that cause the immune system to produce protein, globulin (immunoglobulin) called antibodies.
Antibodies can bind to the antigen on the surface of bacteria
-can also because clumping of the bacteria, this helps removal of these bacteria -antibodies can also neutralize toxins produced by bacteria.
Immunity
-You only suffer from some infections once, because once is enough to give you ‘immunity’.
-You are immune to a second infection because once activated; both B and T cells leave behind memory cells versions of them.
These are ready to spring into action should the same germ return.
This immunity can be reduced if you are weakened by anyother infection
-Some immunity is 'innate', which means you were born with it.
This is present in all and is besides the immunity passed on by the mother.
Some immunity is ‘acquired’ either by exposure to the germ during an infection or by immunization (vaccination).
