COMMON AILMENTS A-Z

BED WETTING

Children who cannot hold their urine suffer from enuresis.

This happens to about ten per cent of children.

Enuresis could be nocturnal (night time bed wetting) or diurnal (during the day).

It occurs more often in male children.

It is worth consulting a doctor, because enuresis could be due to

a urinary tract infection.

Families should accept that the children involved have no control over the situation and that bed wetting is not intentional act.

With time most of the children grow out of this ailment by 12-15 yrs

Self Care

* Limit the child's fluid intake about two hours before sleep

* Make the child pass urine before going to bed.

* An older child could be encouraged to maintain a record and

Improve on it.

* A child could be woken up 2-3 times at night to urinate.
