COMMON AILMENTS A-Z



DIARRHEA
You have repeated bowel action, and
the stool is liquid and unformed
this is called diarrhea.
It could be due to infection by bacteria, parasites or virus.
Diarrhea usually starts six hours after the eating or drinking of infected food or water.
Diarrhea could also be due to use of medication
antibioties,
or laxatives,
or a stressed emotional state.
Irritable bowel disease also causes diarrhea.
SELF CARE
* Stop all solid food
* Diarrhea can result in dehydration.
So there should be constant oral re-hydration, especially in children and the old,
Dehydration sets in early in these cases .
Oral re-hydration can be achieved through drinking plenty of water and fluids such as tea or cold drinks.
* Start semi-solid and bland foods as diarrhea comes under
control avoid greasy and spicy foods.
