GLOSSARY A-Z 88 hypotension hypothermia hysterectomy



Technical terms come up in discussion with your physician at various stages of your meeting/ encounters with him.
 If the meaning of these terms is lost on you, you do not benefit from the discussion.
 It is therefore important that you understand the meaning and content of these terms.
This not only helps you to understand fully what is said but also helps you to ask question to clarify issues raised by your understanding. 
 
Given below are the terms which you would come across in the discussion.

Hypotension Low blood pressure ( systolic below 90 mmHg )
Hypothermia Low body temperature ( below  98.6 ˚ F ) The  demand for oxygen is low in these conditions. This property  is useful when  surgery is performed on vital tissues .The body is cooled rapidly to lower demand for oxygen.
Hysterectomy Removal of the uterus; this is usually done only when these is an absolute need for doing so, for example , cancer or excessive bleeding
