Technical terms come up in discussion with your physician at various stages of your meeting/ encounters with him.
 If the meaning of these terms is lost on you, you do not benefit from the discussion.
 It is therefore important that you understand the meaning and content of these terms.
This not only helps you to understand fully what is said but also helps you to ask question to clarify issues raised by your understanding. 
 Given below are the terms which you would come across in the discussion.
They are in alphabetic order to provide ease of access.

Pituitary gland (pi tyu teri)   A pea sized gland situated at the base of the brain. It controls functions of the thyroid, adrenals, testis, ovary, and also secretion of growth hormone and prolactin

Placebo (pla si bo)  A pill, powder or injection containing no drug which is given as treatment. Sometimes they have an effect (placebo effect) since the patient expects results from the ‘treatment’.s

Platelets  Disc shaped structures produced in the bone marrow and found in blood. They collect and stick to a site of injury in a blood vessel to stop blood loss;  they assist clotting.

Pleurisy (plyu re si) Inflammation of the pleure ( the outer lining of the lungs). It occurs in TB and produces chest pain and fever.
