GLOSSARY A-Z 142




Technical terms come up in discussion with your physician at various stages of your meeting/ encounters with him.
 If the meaning of these terms is lost on you, you do not benefit from the discussion.
 It is therefore important that you understand the meaning and content of these terms.
This not only helps you to understand fully what is said but also helps you to ask question to clarify issues raised by your understanding. 
 
Given below are the terms which you would come across in the discussion.
They are in alphabetic order to provide ease of access.

Root canal   A passage in the root of the tooth containing nerves and blood vessels
Roughage (ruf ij) Fibre in the diet that is not digested. It is present in fruits and vegetables. Fibre provides bulk to stools. 
Roundworm  Also called   ascariasis. It is widely prevalent in the tropics and can cause pain in the abdomen. It enters the human system through uncooked food or unclean water.
Saccharin (sak e rin)   A very sweet white  substance, very low in calories. It is used as sugar substitute
