Glossary A-Z 143



Technical terms come up in discussion with your physician at various stages of your meeting/ encounters with him.
 If the meaning of these terms is lost on you, you do not benefit from the discussion.
 It is therefore important that you understand the meaning and content of these terms.
This not only helps you to understand fully what is said but also helps you to ask question to clarify issues raised by your understanding. 
 
Given below are the terms which you would come across in the discussion.
They are in alphabetic order to provide ease of access.

Sadism (ssy dizm) A mental state where a person derives pleasure from inflicting pain on others
Sacrum (sa krum) The triangular bone is the midline at the back made up of five sacral vertebra joined together. It is joined to the pelvic bones on either side.

Salicylates   ( sal e syl art )  The most common in use is salicylic acid  (aspirin ) a painkiller that also bring down fever. It can  cause stomach ulcers.
Saline ( sa lyn ) Any solution containing salt. If sterile it is  used  as infusion into a vein in case of dehydration.
