GLOSSARY A-Z 157


Technical terms come up in discussion with your physician at various stages of your meeting/ encounters with him.
 If the meaning of these terms is lost on you, you do not benefit from the discussion.
 It is therefore important that you understand the meaning and content of these terms.
This not only helps you to understand fully what is said but also helps you to ask question to clarify issues raised by your understanding. 
 
Given below are the terms which you would come across in the discussion.
They are in alphabetic order to provide ease of access.

Truss  A device to prevent a hernia from coming out of the abdomen
Tubal ligation  Tying a knot in the fallopian tube for contraception
Typhoid    A fever common in the tropics. It is caused by salmonella
Ulcer   ( ul ser ) The death of surface covering cells of the  skin  or intestines. This results in infection of the exposed deeper surface and persistence of this  uncovered infected area. This is an ulcer.
